Design Process

A Step-By-Step Roadmap To Success

How I Turn Your Goals Into Strategic, Effective Design

Every project I take on starts with a clear goal: create purposeful, strategic design that moves your business forward. I don’t just make things look good, I help uncover what’s really needed, then build creative solutions to match.

Here’s the 8-step process I use to take your project from first conversation to final delivery:

Getting to the Real Challenge

1. Discovery

Before we start, I’ll ask you some quick questions to get the basics. Then we’ll meet to talk about what you really need.

I won’t just take “I need a brochure” at face value. We’ll explore why you need it and what success looks like for you. Maybe it’s about increasing sales or getting more eyes on a new product. Knowing this helps me create a solution that actually works.

Finding the Best Solution Together

2. Defining Your Needs

Sometimes the solution you initially imagine might not be the one that best solves your challenge, and that’s completely normal.

As an experienced designer, I bring a fresh perspective and proven strategies to help guide you toward the most effective approach. I’ll explain options clearly, so you can make decisions that align with your goals.

This collaboration ensures the final design isn’t just what you wanted, but what you need to succeed.

Our Roadmap

3. Design Brief

After our initial conversations, I’ll put together a clear, easy-to-understand brief that outlines everything we’ve discussed. This includes who you are, what you need, who your audience is, deadlines, budget, and how your brand should sound and feel.

You’ll have a chance to review and approve the brief before I begin any creative work, so we’re aligned from the start.

Laying the Groundwork

4. Research & Mood Boarding

Before design begins, I take time to understand your brand’s landscape. I’ll review your current materials, look at what competitors are doing, and identify ways your brand can stand out while staying true to its goals. This helps align how your brand is perceived with how you want it to communicate.

From there, I’ll create a mood board that captures the intended tone, style, and direction. It’s a collaborative checkpoint, something we’ll review together to confirm we’re heading the right way before any design work starts.

Clear Timelines & Communication

5. Managing the Project

I’ll share a timeline with milestones and deadlines so you always know what’s coming up and when I’ll need things from you.

This keeps everything on track and stress-free.

Exploring Your Options

6. Concept Development

I’ll sketch out several design ideas quickly, then refine the top three options digitally.

You’ll get to review these distinct choices and tell me what you like—or don’t. We’ll work together to refine the final direction.

Fine-Tuning With Purpose

7. Revisions

We’ll limit revisions to keep things focused and effective. I’ll explain why certain choices matter and what changing them might mean for your goals.

Ultimately, your satisfaction is key—I’ll make sure you understand every step along the way.

Wrapping Up and Looking Ahead

8. Final Delivery & Follow-Up

Once the final design is approved, I’ll prepare and deliver all the necessary files—optimized for print, web, or other formats—along with guidance on how to use them if anything is unfamiliar. You’ll receive clean, professional assets that are ready to go.

After launch, I’ll check in to see how everything is performing and whether the project met your goals. If there’s an opportunity to build on that success—whether through companion materials or a new project—I’m always happy to collaborate again.

Questions?

That’s totally normal. Part of my process is helping you figure out what will actually solve the problem and make the most impact.

I include a set number of revision rounds so we stay focused and on track. You’ll know exactly what’s included before we start.

You’ll get a clear timeline with key dates, check-ins, and when I’ll need input from you. That keeps things moving smoothly.
